The Lords of the Rings is Getting a New Cosy Game

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game is a new cosy title by Wētā Workshop Game Studio. The game lets players live life as a hobbit in the iconic town of Bywater. When you arrive at this town at the start of the game, it is rather run down and not-so-established. However, with your help, you’ll turn this dilapidated town into a festive tourist destination for all Middle-earth.

In the trailer, we get a small glimpse of some of the activities you’ll take on in Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game. It seems to follow the classic cosy gameplay elements. You’ll plant flowers, build structures, cook and clean and help contribute to a thriving Hobbit society.

The game is being published by Private Division. The official description reads:

“Toss your lure to catch trout from the glistening waters of Bywater Pool, gather wild mushrooms, and then use the collected ingredients to bake a succulent pie to serve for luncheon. With a full belly, stroll back outside to explore the Shire and build relationships with the Bywater locals by helping them to build a garden, sharing one of the many daily Hobbit meals, and more.”

The game has also hinted that your town might be visited by iconic Lord of the Rings characters. Players will have a robust skill tree to master, clothes to make, homes to decorate and more. Sure, you won’t be taking down armies of Orcs in this game, but cosy fans can look forward to the experience.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game is expected to launch in the second half of 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. Catch up on the trailer below:
