Apple March Event

Apple Arcade and Apple TV Plus Price Hike Confirmed

Apple has raised the price of a number of subscriptions on the service. Starting today, if your subscription needs to be renewed, you’ll pay more for it than before. This includes the price of Apple Arcade, Apple News Plus (where available), Apple TV Plus and the Apple One bundles.

Apple Arcade has been increased from R84,99 per month to R124,99 per month. Apple TV Plus has increased but thankfully not in South Africa. In the United States, Apple TV Plus will now cost $9.99 per month instead of $6.99. Apple News Plus has also gone from $9.99 to $12.99. The service isn’t available in South Africa.

The lack of an Apple TV Plus price hike in South Africa is surprising given the new $9.99 US price. If anything, you would expect our local price to go to around R149. Thankfully, Apple is showing us a bit of mercy.

Keep in mind that with the new Apple Arcade price increase of R40, supported Apple One subscription bundles are also going up. However, at the time of writing, I could not load the new updated pricing.

While price hikes are inevitable, Apple has done us dirty this year with price increases. Earlier this year we got a price hike across Apple Music and iCloud storage plans. We also saw Apple TV Plus skyrocket in late 2022. Considering the number of services Apple offers, if you subscribe to them all, you’re likely paying quite a chunk of money each month to the company.

Apple says that these new price adjustments will reflect when your current subscription expires.

  • Apple TV+: $6.99 per month → $9.99 per month
  • Apple Arcade: $4.99 per month → $6.99 per month
    • South Africa – R84.99 – R124.99
  • Apple News+: $9.99 per month → $12.99 per month

The company is expected to host an October showcase event next week with new Mac product reveals.
