Assassin’s Creed Prototype Gameplay Appears Online

Early gameplay footage from a number of past Assassin’s Creed games have appeared online. The footage shows prototype gameplay so essentially, early in-development footage of the game. Some of these clips reveal how these games changed between development and release. One clip, for example, shows off an easily in-game interface for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

It is quite interesting to see how some Assassin’s Creed games looked before they were released to the public. Most of the games are based on earlier titles such as Assassin’s Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag (formerly known as Golden Age) and some footage of Syndicate.

If anything, this prototype gameplay makes you realize just how much work goes into the game. From the setting up of the animation and how it interacts with the world to the creation of the world itself. One Assassin’s Creed Origin clip shows how Ubisoft worked on the running animation. Another clip shows how the studio created and tuned the sails ride in Black Flag.

These clips have been uploaded to the Internet Archive. Likely to preserve them. I doubt they have been leaked by some insider. You can view them all here.

Ubisoft is currently working on its latest Assassin’s Creed Codename Red game. The title is set in Feudal Japan and will reportedly set the bar for open-world games from the studio. The game is expected to launch before the end of March 2025.
