Avatar: The Way of Water Gets Final Trailer Ahead of Release

Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar, has received a final trailer ahead of its release this December. The new trailer showcases more dazzling visuals, a clash of clans as well as a glimpse of the world beneath the waves. The film is set to release in cinemas, both IMAX and 3D, on 16 December 2022.

The latest trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water shows how far technology and CGI have come since the original 2009 film, which was already impressive for its time. The sequel takes it up a notch by taking us to an underwater world on the planet Pandora, filled with wonder, imagination and, well, sea monsters. It’s being billed as “the motion picture event of a generation.”

The first Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time. Currently sitting at $2.9 billion earned worldwide, it edges out Avengers: Endgame‘s $2.7 billion global earnings and is well ahead of Titanic‘s $2.2 billion in third place, which was also directed by James Cameron. This begs the question of whether the sequel will be enough to break the first film’s historical box office records.

The description provided on the film’s official website reads:

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the film stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.”

Avatar: The Way of Water releases in cinemas on 16 December 2022. Check out the latest trailer below.
