Blizzard has announced the much-rumoured remake of the classic top-down RPG, Diablo 2 Resurrected. For some, this may hit home as the original 2000 release redefined gaming. Blizzard claims the new game is a remaster but if anything, it looks more like a remake. In addition to boasting some incredible new visuals, the game will also include both the base game and the Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction expansion.
Showmax Original ‘DAM’ Premieres on 22 February
Diablo 2 Resurrected will be available on PC and consoles including Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It will also support cross character progression across all the platforms so you can start on one and finish on the other. While the game has no exact release date, Blizzard says it is coming in 2021.
Blizzard says that Diablo 2 Resurrected will sell for $39,99 on PC and consoles later this year. The game will include an option to play it in its new fancy visual fidelity or users can switch back to the classic engine with a press of a button. All the cutscenes have also been remastered, there is a new UI and expanded stash and of course, loads of graphical and sound enhancements users can enjoy.
It also seems that Blizzard has kept some of the core game design features that made the original Diablo 2 challenging (and great). This includes the blocky inventory system and having to equip and carry potions around instead of just using one and waiting for it to refill. Ah…. the good old days.
Diablo II: Resurrected includes all content from both Diablo II and its epic expansion Diablo II: Lord of Destruction®. Battle your way through icy caverns, horrific tombs filled with undead abominations, and frozen wastelands to the frigid summit of Mount Arreat and stop Baal, the Lord of Destruction. Raise hell with two Lord of Destruction playable classes—the cunning Assassin, master of traps and shadow disciplines, and the savage Druid, a bold shapeshifter and summoner who commands primal elemental magic.
Blizzard says they will host a PC alpha text in the future so look out for that soon. Watch the fantastic Diablo 2 Resurrected trailer down below and sign up for the test here.
