Helldivers 2 continues to do well around the world. Over the weekend, the game surpassed 3 million copies sold across PS5 and PC and reached an all-time high on Steam too.
Despite some nasty server issues which plagued the game for the first two weeks of launch, players have been dedicated to the cause and have stuck around. Over the weekend, the Helldivers 2 servers managed to accommodate most of its players after the infrastructure was upgraded to host a new 800,000-player cap.
According to Arrowhead Game Studios CEO, Johan Pilestedt, Helldivers 2 did encounter a peak player count of 800,000 during the weekend which resulted in some minor log-in queues for players. However, these wait times weren’t long and players were soon able to get in and join the fight.
It is nice to know that Helldivers 2 is now in a playable state and you’ll be able to jump into the game without major problems. This has come a long way from the day-long outages that plagued the game at launch. Most players weren’t able to get into Helldivers 2 for days on end.
We know that Helldivers 2 is planned to be an ever-expanding experience. New content will arrive each month as the galaxy changes and new invasions occur around different planets. We also know that mechs are scheduled to launch soon too. Players will be able to jump into giant robot weapons to fend off the bugs and robots.
Leaked files for the game also confirmed that Helldivers 2 is set to receive a third faction to fight against. The Illuminate alien race will be added at some stage. The race appeared in the first game.
If you haven’t picked up Helldivers 2 due to the server issues, I would say it is now safe to do so. In my review, I praise the game’s chaotic action and fantastic co-op mechanics that both work with and against you.
