Horizon Forbidden West was released on Friday last week and it has been nothing short of a success. The game instantly went to No 1 in the UK boxed charts according to GfK and is now Sony’s second-biggest video game launch behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. 

According to the report, Horizon Forbidden West also moved a lot of retail box copies. More than usual. 68% of box sales were on PS5 while the remainder were PS4 copies. This is reported off UK box sales but the same ratio is seen in most territories.

The release of Horizon Forbidden West kicked Pokemon Legends: Arceus out of the top stop in the UK after sitting at No 1 for over three weeks. However, while Horizon Forbidden West is now sitting at No 1, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is still the fastest-selling game of the year as Forbidden West could not move more numbers than Nintendo’s Pokemon game.

While retail sales have been strong for Horizon Forbidden West, retailers have reported a 35% drop compared to its predecessor Horizon Zero Dawn. However, this data doesn’t account for any digital sales made for the game. Given that digital game sales now top retail, the game has most likely sold more copies than Zero Dawn. 

Sony also managed to restock PS5 consoles in certain regions (not here) to coincide with the launch of Horizon Forbidden West. This resulted in a surge of other PS5 games being sold. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart saw a 90% surge in sales. This is thanks to users purchasing new PS5 games with their new consoles.

Cyberpunk 2077 also saw a bump in sales. This is thanks to the recent release of its PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version. The game saw a 271% spike in sales. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to put the game into the top 20. Here are the current top 10 UK retail box sales as of today.
