How to Play Co-Op in Elden Ring Using Summon Signs

Elden Ring, the new open-world action-RPG by From Software, is finally out today and fans are diving headfirst into The Lands Between. However, you’re not alone on your adventure as you can summon friends for some jolly co-operation. If you’re curious about how to play co-op using summon signs, this guide might come in handy.

Naturally, you’ll need either an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus subscription for consoles in order to do any kind of multiplayer in Elden Ring. However, if you just want to play the game without being invaded by other players, go into your main menu, select the System tab, pick Network then toggle the game to Play Offline.

How to Play Co-Op in Elden Ring

Co-Op in Elden Ring works similarly to the Dark Souls series. Players will first need an item called the Furlcalling Finger Remedy (crafted with Erdleaf Flowers) in order to reveal Summon Signs. However, there are two different summon signs that you need to be aware of in case you accidentally summon a hostile player.

Gold Summon Signs mean you’ll be able to summon friendly allies. Red Summon Signs mean you’re challenging another player to a PvP duel.

However, if you want to initiate co-op with friends, you simply need to go to your Multiplayer tab in the main menu, create a special password, and then share this password with your friends. They’ll then be able to hop into your world when they input this password, and vice versa.

The Alternative Summoning Pools

Interestingly, this isn’t the only way to summon players into your world. You’ll find Summoning Pools near optional dungeons, Legacy Dungeons, and near certain Sites of Grace. If there are any players available, a Martyr Effigy (a stone carving that looks like the Praise the Sun emote) will appear in the pool.

This will bring up a list of currently available players that will be able to assist you in your location. As with Summon Signs, gold means friendly and red means hostile.

Finally, if you choose to help a random player in Elden Ring and want to be summoned into their world instead, you just need the Tarnished’s Furled Finger (which can be found on a corpse in the Stranded Graveyard). Using a Furled Finger by the closest Site of Grace will allow you to place down a Summon Sign for other players to use.

Elden Ring is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
