Marvel Rivals Officially Revealed – Closed Alpha Coming May

Following a round of leaks yesterday, NetEase Games and Marvel Games have officially revealed Marvel Rivals, a free-to-play third-person 6v6 team shooter inspired by Overwatch. The game has been confirmed to be free-to-play with a closed alpha set to arrive in May.

Marvel Rivals will feature 6v6 brawls featuring some of Marvel’s most iconic characters including Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Loki, Iron Man, Bruce Banner/Hulk, Rocket Raccoon and Magneto, among others. Developer NetEase Games is comprised of former Call of Duty and Battlefield veterans who have experience in the PvP multiplayer space, bringing their expertise to the new title.

So far, these are the confirmed characters that will be available as part of the game’s roster:

  • Black Panther
  • Doctor Strange
  • Groot
  • Hulk
  • Iron Man
  • Loki
  • Luna Snow
  • Magik
  • Magneto
  • Namor
  • Peni Parker
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Spider-Man

Marvel Rivals will let players synergise the abilities of certain characters for unique combinations like Rocket Raccoon riding on Groot’s back or Hulk powering up Iron Man’s armour with gamma energy for extra damage. Two environments have been confirmed: Asgard and Tokyo 2099, which NetEase says will be fully destructible. “Use superpowers to alter these environments, reshape the terrain, and craft a strategic advantage on the battlefield,” reads the description.

The plot description for Marvel Rivals reads:

“The merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown. Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals.”

Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a release date yet but a closed alpha is scheduled to take place in May on PC. More details to follow.
