Marvel’s Midnight Suns Delayed to Late 2022

Firaxis and 2K Games have decided to delay the upcoming XCOM-meets-Marvel clone, Marvel’s Midnight Suns into the second half of 2022. The game was originally set to launch in March next year. However, the development team won’t make this release date and instead, players can look forward to experiencing this unique tactical strategy game late next year.

The news doesn’t come as a massive surprise. Almost everything is delayed these days and we haven’t had a game meet its release date in months. If you’re looking forward to a game, don’t expect to play it on time… That is what this pandemic has taught us.

In a statement, 2K Games says that Firaxis didn’t take the decision to delay the game lightly. They claim the extra few months of development time can be used to make the best game possible. In addition, the studio will use this time to add more story, cinematics and overall polish to the experience.

We decided to share that we’ve made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022. We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and the decision did not come lightly.”

The extra months of development will be used to add more story, cinematics and overall polish.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was announced at Gamescom in August. While at first, it looked like just another Marvel action game, the dev team behind the project also brought us the XCOM series. The game is set in an obscure supernatural part of the Marvel Comic universe and sees players control a wide range of superheroes in combat.

At the moment, Firaxis says Marvel’s Midnight Suns will contain 13 heroes plucked from different parts of the Marvel universe. This includes X-Men, Avengers and the Runaways. Players control The Hunter, a new character who has been created just for the game in collaboration with Marvel. The Hunter is customizable in both combat and appearance.

As for the combat, it follows the traditional XCOM turn-based tactical approach. However, Marvel’s Midnight Suns also relies heavily on a card system that unlocks skills and attacks for heroes. The game is expected to now launch in late 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC.
