Saints Row Reboot Delayed to August 2022

The Saints Row reboot has officially been delayed from its original 25 February 2022 release date, and will now launch on 23 August 2022 instead. Jim Boone, the Chief Creative Officer at Volition, made the announcement recently, stating that they will need extra time in development to polish the title and make sure it’s in the best possible shape for launch.

The new Saints Row game was announced this year as a reboot of the series, placing a focus once again on building an empire through gang warfare and honing your own gang reputation. Originally planned to launch in the extremely busy month of February 2022, it looks like Volition wants to take a bit more time to work on the game and iron out any problems before launch, giving them a few extra months of development time.

In a statement posted on the official Saints Row website, Boone wrote:

“Saints Row will no longer release on the originally announced date of 25th February 2022, instead it will launch worldwide on 23rd August 2022.

Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.

In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive.”

Boone cites the impact of COVID as being one of the key reasons behind this delay, as it affected many games that got delayed over the past year. He goes on to assure players that they’re trying to work on making this Saints Row reboot the best in the series and hopes that the final product will be worth the wait.

It’s also worth noting that February 2022 remains an incredibly busy month for gaming. Saints Row would’ve released in a month that pitted it against a few highly anticipated titles like Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring and Dying Light 2 Stay Human, among others. It was probably a wise decision to move out of that month.

Saints Row now releases on 23 August 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In case you missed it, make sure you read our full preview here.
