Sea of Thieves is PSN’s Most Downloaded Digital Game in April in The EU

It seems PS5 players in the EU all jumped on board the Sea of Thieves ship in April making the once-Xbox-exclusive the most downloaded game of the month.

According to PlayStation, the treasure plundering game beat Stellar Blade to the top spot in the EU and became the most-downloaded digital game on the PlayStation Network in April. While the game didn’t manage to make it to the top in the US, it did come in at third under Helldivers and Stellar Blade.

Sea of Thieves launched on PS5 on 29 April with an early access period for Deluxe Edition owners. Even with its late launch in the month, the game has clearly done well for Microsoft. Of course, this is also good news given that Sea of Thieves’s launch was meant to test the waters of how popular these Xbox Game Studios titles might be on PS5.

Microsoft also launched Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded on PS5 in the past few months. The company has done so as a result of plummetting profit margins across the Xbox division. Microsoft recently shut down the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, Tango Gameworks alongside Redfall studio Arkane.

The Xbox maker has been in the news this past week for the poor handling of its gaming division which has resulted in major layoffs this year and now further studio closures.

Sea of Thieves will likely continue to do well on PS5. I have been plundering treasure since its launch last month. Aside from the game relying heavily on co-op, it makes for a good time, even if there are barely any tutorials explaining how this live service mammoth works.
