Sea of Thieves Coming to PlayStation

Sea of Thieves Officially Releases on PS5 in April

After leaks last month claimed that Sea of Thieves would be coming to PlayStation, Xbox has finally revealed that Rare’s pirate adventure game will be heading to PS5 in April. Players will be able to wishlist the game starting today. Best of all, the game will also support cross-play so you’ll be able to join friends on Xbox and PC as well.

Earlier this month, Microsoft held a business update to announce that it had plans to bring four unnamed Xbox exclusives to other platforms. As revealed during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct Partner showcase, we now know that both Grounded and Pentiment will be heading to Nintendo Switch in addition to PS4 and PS5.

Sea of Thieves has also joined the multiplatform release schedule as it’s set to launch on PS5 on 30 April 2024. Xbox explained:

“Sea of Thieves, the shared world adventure game from Rare, will be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 – and will be available to wishlist by PlayStation 5 players starting tomorrow, February 22. Having built a passionate community of more than 35 million players from around the world, the support of cross play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC will allow players to experience epic pirate adventures with friends on more platforms.”

Sea of Thieves originally launched in 2018 to a mixed reception, though frequent updates have really turned the game around. Players are able to form their own pirate crew, build ships and set sail on a sprawling ocean to hunt for treasure and adventure. Sea of Thieves also lets you engage in both naval and melee combat against other players or enemies. Its arrival on PlayStation will definitely boost the game’s popularity and give PS5 players a taste of what is arguably one of Xbox’s best first-party titles right now.
