Sony owns a number of studios. The company recently purchased Bungie, Bluepoint Games and announced a substantial investment into Epic Games. However, one strange relationship the brand has always had is with Hideo Kojima. Death Stranding, which was released exclusively on PS4 and PS5 with a later release on PC has always been seen as “Sony’s game” even though Kojima Productions developed the title. The relationship might go deeper than we think.
Sony has recently added Death Stranding to its PlayStation Studios web page alongside all the other titles that the company has released through its owned entities. The game joins the likes of Returnal, Days Gone, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank, MLB and Gran Turismo 7.

In fact, the old banner which was replaced earlier this week did not have Gran Turismo 7 or Death Stranding on it at all. So Sony has gone ahead and added two new games to the artwork. One is made by Polyphony, a Sony-owned studio and the other by Kojima Productions. Death Stranding is the only game on the artwork which Sony doesn’t have any studio ownership over. Or so we think.
New Banner
Old Banner
Users report that the last time Sony changed this banner was when the company added Bluepoint Game’s Demon’s Souls and Housemarque’s Returnal. This is after both studios were bought out by Sony last year.
So is Kojima Productions being acquired by Sony? Who knows at this point. The banner is definitely a strange move by the company and if anything, Death Stranding doesn’t belong on a “PlayStation Studios” web page when it isn’t made by a Sony-owned studio. Perhaps the banner was changed prematurely or maybe Sony simply wanted the game there due to its publishing rights?
Hideo Kojima recently moved to a new studio location so maybe that has something to do with an unannounced acquisition? Rumours have been going around for a while that Kojima Productions was working on yet another Sony exclusive game. Some say this is Silent Hill while others believe a Death Stranding sequel is coming our way.
