Spyro Return Possibly Teased by Toys for Bob

A return of Spyro The Dragon has possibly been teased by developer Toys for Bob. The beloved purple dragon was one of gaming’s many popular mascots back in the early days of the PlayStation and has since seen a revival via the Spyro Reiginited Trilogy. However, a new game was never officially announced as Toys for Bob doubled down on new Crash Bandicoot games instead. That might change in 2023 if a recent tease by the developer is to be believed.

Toys for Bob recently posted an image on Twitter celebrating 2023 and potential future projects. Eagle-eyed viewers quickly spotted Spyro The Dragon floating in the corner of the image, suggesting that the developer might be teasing the purple dragon’s return this year. 2023 also marks the 25th anniversary of Spyro, so the timing couldn’t be any more perfect.

Toys for Bob was shifted to a support studio for Call of Duty Warzone but it was still allowed to develop its own titles. In fact, it’s currently working on Crash Team Rumble. The studio previously worked on remake collections with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy as well as newer entries like Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

It’s possible that the studio might’ve quietly been working on a new Spyro game too which could be revealed sometime this year to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. With the recent resurgence of popular video game icons like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro’s return would be a nice surprise. Unfortunately, there’s no other evidence to suggest that Toys for Bob is actually working on a new Spyro game (apart from a cheeky art book tease back in 2020), so take this with a pinch of salt.

In the meantime, the studio is currently working on Crash Team Rumble which is expected to launch in 2023. It will be a 4v4, team-based online multiplayer game set in the universe of Crash Bandicoot. So far, it seems like a promising party game to enjoy with friends.
