Foamstars Square Enix Splatoon PS4 PS5 PvP Online Shooter

Square Enix’s Foamstars Brings Splatoon-Styled PvP to PS4 and PS5

One of the more unexpected announcements during last night’s PlayStation Showcase was the reveal of Foamstars, a new PvP online multiplayer shooter from Square Enix that’s not shy about its Splatoon inspiration. The game pits players in colourful 4v4 matches where the battleground is the objective and unlike Nintendo’s multiplayer shooter, this is a foam party.

Foamstars is a 4v4 multiplayer party shooter set to launch on PS4 and PS5, though a release date wasn’t announced. A gorgeous backdrop of a futuristic night city sets the stage for these intense foam battles where players can create slippery surfaces to surf on, build terrain and help other players defend bases from enemy attacks.

The description of Foamstars provided by Square Enix reads:

“In FOAMSTARS, foam is the ultimate resource. It can be used in multiple ways: To create slippery surfaces that players can use to surf around the arena at high speed; to build terrain, helping players defend from enemy attacks or creating high vantage points to take out opponents; and finally, to foam up the opposition and win the match.”

According to Square Enix producer Kosuke Okatani who spoke in more detail about the game on the PlayStation Blog, Foamstars is all about the foam. “A key feature of this title is that the uses of foam are creative and versatile. For instance, players can build up foam fortresses and shoot enemies from the top, surf on suds to traverse the battlefield, or even use foam to defend from enemy attacks,” said Okatani.

Since there’s no confirmation of a release date, it’s unclear when fans can get their hands on Foamstars in the future. Unfortunately, the only platforms confirmed are PS4 and PS5 so there’s some uncertainty about whether or not it will ever release on PC or Xbox.
