The Game Awards 2023 is just a few days away and host/creator Geoff Keighley has debuted a hype trailer to get people buzzing about the event later this week. Celebrating the biggest gaming releases of the year, The Game Awards aims to bring together the industry and award the best games with top honours across several categories.
The hype trailer for The Game Awards was edited by Geoff Keighley himself – and rather well, we might add. It’s a collection of clips picked from the numerous games nominated at the event this year including Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and many others.

The Game Awards will take place at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theatre on 7 December at 7:30PM ET or 2:30AM CAT (morning of 8 December for South Africa). This year was a rollercoaster of fantastic gaming releases which have all (mostly) received nominations in select categories with the exception of a few titles like Hogwarts Legacy or Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
Some highlights include Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 duking it out for Best Fighting Game; Baldur’s Gate 3 going up against Lies of P and Starfield for Best RPG; Final Fantasy XVI‘s Ben Starr is up against Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Neil Newbon in Best Performance; Hi-Fi Rush standing up to Final Fantasy XVI and Alan Wake 2 for Best Score and Music; and HBO’s The Last of Us packed into Best Adaptation alongside The Super Mario Bros. Movie, among many others. You can check out the full list of nominees here.
The biggest category of the night is Game of the Year. Past winners include 2022’s Elden Ring, 2021’s It Takes Two and 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. This year’s nominees for Game of the Year are:
- Alan Wake 2
