Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom – How to Get The Master Sword

Just as Link and Zelda are staples in a Legend of Zelda game, the Master Sword is present in every game too. However, in Tears of the Kingdom, the sword isn’t as easy to obtain as in Breath of the Wild. In fact, you can get Master Sword quite early into your playthrough if you know where to look. I actually stumbled upon it by accident and bypassed most of the admin needed to find its location.

I have included the authentic way to get the sword, the spoiler-free fastest route and the way I got it by accident.

Without going into detail on any story points, here’s the fastest way to find the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:

  • Get 5 Stamina Vessel Upgrades
    • Upgrade this by offering Light of Blessing (4 for each upgrade) to a blessing statue
  • Find the Yellow Dragon
    • This dragon flies clockwise around the map. The best way to spot it is to get to the sky kingdom and look around Hyrule’s edge for it
  • Fly to the dragon and make your way to its face
    • The Master Sword is impaled on its forehead. Pull it out by sacrificing your stamina

How to Get The Master Sword in Tears of The Kingdom – Authentic Method (Spoilers!)

The authentic way to get the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is to follow the hints across the game. These hints are provided to you by finding all eleven memories scattered across level Geoglyphs on the map.

Each Geoglyphs contain a dragon’s tear that when found, gives you insight into the journey of Zelda and how she prepared the Master Sword for Link. The last memory gives you the location.

The Geoglyphs are scattered across the map. They are large patterns on the ground and you can find each one’s location by visiting the Forgotten Temple in the Tabantha Tundra (coordinates at -0973,2795,-0093).

Visit each Geoglyph and watch the memory. The tenth memory will point you to the final Dragon’s Tear at the Rist Peninsula (the spiral island thing on the right-hand side of the map). This memory will unveil the Master Sword’s location on the Light Dragon’s head. Find the dragon and get the sword using five Stamina Vessel upgrades.

How to Get The Master Sword in Tears of The Kingdom – Alternate Way (Possible Spoilers)

Another route you can go, which I accidently found, is to visit the Master Sword’s location from Breath of the Wild. However, it isn’t as simple as just going there because the Lost Woods is blocked off by strange magic.

You can get to the Lost Woods by going underground through a chasm to the depths on the right-hand side of the location. The Depths acts as a path to the previous Master Sword’s location in Breath of The Wild.

Locate the chasm and jump down. Head through the dark area until you spot lights in the shape of beans scattered across a tree. There’s a concrete temple nearby. The exact spot you need is at coordinates 0436, 2095, -0588.

Stand underneath the giant stone pillar and use the Ascend power. This will shoot you way up into the middle of the Lost Woods where the Master Sword was kept. You’ll discover that the location is actually the home of the Great Deku Tree too.

Chatting to the Great Deku Tree, you’ll learn it is feeling sick. It says its “stomach hurts”. You can heal it by leaping into the chasm inside the tree. Once here, you’ll have an intense fight with some phantom arms and a Phantom Ganon.

After the fight, the Deku Tree will be healed and mention that it feels the light from the Master Sword nearby. It will then mark the exact location of the Light Dragon in the sky. Head there and pull the Master Sword out using five Stamina Vessels.
