Apple Hikes iCloud+ Subscription Prices in South Africa

Apple is making it substantially more expensive to keep your storage backed up using the 2TB iCloud+ option in South Africa. Effective from July, the 2TB plan will increase in price seeing the service hit R199 per month for 2TBs of iCloud storage in the region.

The other lower storage option including the 200GB package is also increasing slightly from R44.99 to R59.99.

Back in 2017, Apple released the 2TB storage option at a much higher price tier than it was now. The 2TB service was set at $19,99. However, the company quickly dropped that price down to $9.99 after it stopped offering the 1TB tier, which was originally priced at $9.99.

While the new South African price for iCloud is much higher, it does align with the current exchange range. So given the weak rand, this is expected. As it stands, Apple iCloud is one of the more expensive online storage options in South Africa. In comparison so Google Drive and One Drive, all of Apple’s offerings cost more per month per gig.
