PC players enjoying Helldivers 2 via Steam will be required to link their Steam account to an active PlayStation Network account soon. Starting from 6 May, new players will have to link their existing Steam account to a PSN account which, according to Sony, is meant to “uphold the value of safety and security” provided on PlayStation. Current players will also need to eventually link their accounts but this deadline is 4 June.
As reported by the Helldivers 2 Media Twitter/X account, Helldivers 2 PC players will be required to link their Steam accounts to PSN. The rollout will start with new players joining the game after 6 May. Current players will then have until 4 June to link their accounts, which means if you’re a dedicated Steam player without an existing PlayStation Network account, you’ll need to create one to continue playing the game by that date.
An excerpt from the statement reads:
“Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.”
“We understand that while this may be an inconvenience to some of you, this step will help us to continue to build a community that you are all proud to be a part of,” the statement concluded.
