Assassin’s Creed Hexe Leak Details Horror Elements, Protagonist and More

A new Assassin’s Creed Hexe leak has revealed some new details about the game including its horror elements, a new female protagonist and more. Ubisoft is currently working on building Assassin’s Creed Infinity, an all-encompassing hub that will house future releases in the series, seemingly starting with this year’s rumoured Assassin’s Creed Codename Red (aka Assassin’s Creed Shadows). However, the game after that, Assassin’s Creed Hexe, might still be a few years off from release.

The leak originates from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson who spilled some details on Assassin’s Creed Hexe. First and foremost, the leak mentions that the game is still in early development, though it’s apparently aiming for a release in 2026 as part of the Infinity platform. The game will also reportedly feature a “dark and gloomy” setting with some horror elements such as possession (a cat is possessed to distract 16th century soldiers in the gameplay).

The report goes on to mention that it will be a linear experience with some open world exploration thrown in, akin to earlier Assassin’s Creed games. The protagonist will reportedly be a female named Elsa who is capable of using supernatural abilities (such as the aforementioned possession powers). Finally, the Fear system from the Jack the Ripper DLC of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is also set to make a return in some capacity.

It’s interesting to see the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which has mostly dabbled in the stealth-action and RPG genres, take a darker spin close to horror territory. Players have complained that the series felt like it was stagnating with the last few releases. Both Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which is set in feudal Japan, and Assassin’s Creed Hexe seem to be breaking some new creative ground for the franchise and we can’t wait to see where Ubisoft potentially takes it next.
