The addictive magic roguelike poker game Balatro is coming to iPhone and Android somewhere down the line. The solo developer behind the game confirmed they are working on mobile ports for the game after its overnight success.
If you don’t know Balatro made waves in recent weeks following the game’s instant popularity. It grossed $1 million in eight hours and sold over 500,000 copies in just 10 days of release. Keep in mind that Balatro is only available on console, Steam through PC and recently launched on macOS. So the additional platforms will provide even more revenue for the game.
The announcement was made through a Reddit AMA where solo developer LocalThunk confirmed the game’s mobile ports. PlayStack Games is helping with some publishing.
There’s no release date for Balatro on iOS and Android just yet. LocalThunk also warned users to be aware of cheap cloned games which are advertised as Balatro in order to make a quick buck. For example, on the App Store and Google Play Store, there’s an app called Balatro Poker which isn’t the real deal.
Balatro has been incredibly popular. According to the developer, the game has been played for more than 1742 years. In the Reddit AMA, the developer chats about their biggest influence when making the game and how they intentionally didn’t play Slay the Spire or other popular roguelike deckbuilders during the development.
