Clash of Clans Developer Announces New Game ‘Squad Busters’ For May Launch

Supercell, the people behind the popular Clash of Clans mobile game have announced a new title headed to Android and iOS next month. Supercell doesn’t often release games. The last project it worked on was the now-cancelled Everdale fantasy simulator that didn’t make it out of soft launch. Supercell is hoping the new game, Squad Busters aims high.

Squad Busters is set to launch on 29 May for iOS and Android and is a competitive multiplayer game. In a match, 10 players compete to collect the most gems around an arena while building up their squad of computer-controlled characters.

Players will move their team around the arena while gathering up new squad members. They will then fight other teams as they come into contact with one another. There is also a giant pile of gems in the middle of the map, which all players will eventually fight for.

The game resembles your typical MOBA gameplay but seems a bit more simplified. The trailer, which is only 30 seconds long, explains the gameplay loop. Of course, these quick matches align with Supercell’s previous mobile games which can be picked up and played for a few minutes a day or for hours on end.

Supercell is hoping Squad Busters is a hit with fans. The studio doesn’t often release games to the mass public unless it believes it will become a Clash-level hit. Clearly, Supercell has a lot of faith in this mobile project.

Squad Busters is currently available in a few select regions as a soft launch before it launches worldwide next month. If you live in Canada, Mexico, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Singapore, you can play the game today. Else, you’ll need to wait until 29 May.

“Our dream is to create great games that as many people as possible play for years and that are remembered forever. Huge credit to the Squad Busters team — it’s already apparent that the game has such high potential, making it our first company game launch since Brawl Stars in 2018.”
