Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Contains a New Base Game Ending

CD Projekt Red has been in full marketing mode for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty, which not only includes expanded story content but also overhauls much of the game’s mechanics and systems. While a lot of new story elements will be introduced in the expansion, the base game will also receive its own fair share of new content as the developer has now confirmed that Phantom Liberty will include a new ending for the base game.

In a recent interview with IGN, Phantom Liberty director Gabe Amatangelo stated that the upcoming expansion will unlock a completely new ending for the base game. As of now, the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 contains five different endings – including a secret ending – that unlock depending on the decisions you make leading up to the end. It sounds like a sixth ending will be introduced in Phantom Liberty that will impact the expansion’s story as well.

Speaking on the matter of Phantom Liberty‘s new base game ending, Amatangelo said:

“As the trailer shows, Songbird brings you in with the promise of being able to handle your issue with the relic. It will affect outcomes in the base game [and] the story of Phantom Liberty within itself has multiple different variations of endings.”

The base game’s new ending will be unlocked once you reach the end of the expansion and once you’ve forged relationships and made decisions during its playthrough. Details about it are still being kept vague, though it’s possible that CD Projekt Red could brand one of these endings as “canon” for the sequel, unless it takes The Elder Scrolls approach and leaves it all open to interpretation.
