Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty Expansion Surpasses 4.3 Million Sales

The one and only Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty, has officially surpassed 4.3 million sales within two months following its release – 3 million of which occurred during its first post-launch week alone after dropping on PS5, PC and Xbox series X/S earlier this year on 26 September.

According to CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski, over 25 million copies of the base game have also been sold after its controversial release back in December 2020. This surpasses the sales rate of 2015’s The Witcher 3, another immensely successful title by the team, currently sitting at over 50 million sales since launch day.

As mentioned in a recent Video Games Chronicle article, Kicinski had this to say on the expansion’s current state and the positive feedback by the community:

“We are very pleased with the launch of Phantom Liberty. Successful release of the expansion, along with Update 2.0 which introduces a slew of additional improvements, elevates Night City gameplay to another level – in terms of quality. This is an important achievement given our plans to further develop the franchise.”

An “Ultimate Edition” of Cyberpunk 2077 was also recently announced, including the 2.0 overhaul update, Phantom Liberty and a bunch of previously released digital goodies from the “My Rewards” programme. It will be available in both physical form and as a digital download in select markets on 5 December for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. While the physical Xbox versions will arrive with three discs containing both the original title and its expansion, the PS5 version will only contain the base game disc – requiring a separate download of Phantom Liberty. PC gamers excited to get their hands on the boxed version will find GOG codes for both Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty within.

Speaking to VGC, a spokesperson for CDPR offered an explanation regarding each platform’s physical release differences. ”The reason for the difference in how the Phantom Liberty is included in the Ultimate Edition is due to technical requirements specific to each platform.” Well, that certainly clears things up now, doesn’t it?

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
