GTA 6 Trailer is Only The Second Most-Watched Game Trailer Ever

Despite setting records during its first day and week, the debut trailer for GTA 6 is now only the second most-watched video game trailer on YouTube. At 168 million views, it recently passed the trailer for Minecraft which sits at 167 million views. However, that isn’t even half the amount of views that the most-watched game trailer currently holds.

As noted by IGN, the mobile game Subway Surfers surprisingly holds the current record for the most amount of views for a game trailer. How much, you might ask? Well, the official Google Play trailer for the mobile title has 361 million views, which makes GTA 6‘s 168 million views seem small in comparison.

As for why the trailer view count is so high, Subway Surfers is one of the most popular mobile games in the world behind the likes of Candy Crush Saga and FIFA Soccer. It has been downloaded over 4 billion times across several countries. The trailer was also published back in 2012 so it had over a decade to rack up views. However, it’s worth noting that the GTA 6 trailer only released last month and it’s still steadily climbing with at least half-to-one million views accumulated every day since its release. Maybe it will pass Subway Surfers closer to release, who knows.

In related news, the Tom Petty song “Love is a Long Road” that was used in the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 saw a massive 37,000% surge on Spotify plays last month. The trailer is also filled to the brim with references to real-world events and people (mainly from the often meme’d state of Florida). Rapper T-Pain also claims that he’s involved in the game in some capacity, though this hasn’t been outright confirmed by Rockstar Games yet.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in development for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
