Pre-orders for Hogwarts Legacy on Steam has catapulted the anticipated Harry Potter game to the top 10 global top sellers on the platform, suggesting it will acquire massive sales and potentially become a best-seller for 2023. This also depends on the reception of the game at launch and if it upholds a good quality, but regardless, it looks like Hogwarts Legacy is primed to become a big hit even before its release.
The data comes from Twitter user Benji-Sales who recently posted Steam’s global top sellers for the last week, showing Hogwarts Legacy in fourth place behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Elden Ring and the Steam Deck. Since the game hasn’t even launched yet, these are tallied as pre-order numbers which is impressive considering it’s already outselling the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 and God of War.

Benji-Sales adds that he’s heard very strong things about the console pre-orders for Hogwarts Legacy as well. “If quality is good, gargantuan launch incoming, easily one of the biggest of 2023,” said the Twitter user.
Needless to say, there’s a hefty amount of hype leading into the release of Hogwarts Legacy. If it lives up to expectations, it may end up becoming one of the best-selling games of the year. Since the Harry Potter franchise is still immensely popular, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The anticipated open-world RPG will let players create their own character and enroll in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where they can take part in school activities, events, attend classes and hone their character’s skills through these lessons. The entirety of Hogwarts and its surrounding areas will be fully open-world including Hogsmead Village. One of four houses – Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw – can be joined for players to gain access to the lavish dormitories of each.
Hogwarts Legacy is being developed by Avalanche Software, best known for developing Disney Infinity. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive also has another potential hit releasing this year in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Hogwarts Legacy launches on 10 February 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on 4 April 2023, followed by a Nintendo Switch version on 25 July 2023.
