Jack Black Cast as Steve in Minecraft Movie

Jack Black has joined the cast for the upcoming Minecraft live-action movie based on the popular video game. The actor, who recently starred as Bowser in 2023’s Super Mario Bros. Movie will play the lead role of Steve in the upcoming film.

Jack Black joins other notable names including Aquaman’s Jason Momoa, Wednesday’s Emma Myers and The Color Purple’s Danielle Brooks. The Minecraft movie is expected to kick off production immediately sighting a 4 April 2025 release date.

The Minecraft live-action movie is being directed by Napolean Dynamite’s Jared Hess. He worked alongside Jack Black on the 2006 comedy, Nacho Libre. The film is being produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

At the moment, we don’t know what the Minecraft movie will be about. We also don’t know who is writing the screenplay. The film has been in development for a number of years already and talks began to produce the film at Warner Bros. back in 2019.

The film is based on the popular 2011 video game series of the same name. Minecraft has become a worldwide phenomenon with over 140 million active monthly users across the game. We’ll know more about the Minecraft movie as we lead up to the film’s debut next year. At the moment, virtually no information on the film is public. We don’t even know what roles Jason Momoa, Emma Myers and Daniel Brooks will play.
