Respawn Entertainment is reportedly working on a new game set in the Titanfall universe. The game is reportedly in early development and is the same project that was officially confirmed by EA last year as the “existing IP” developed by the skunkworks team.
EA has recently undergone some restructuring at the company which resulted in layoffs and game cancellations. This includes the Star Wars FPS project which was currently in development at Respawn Entertainment. However, EA is seemingly hopeful that a new Titanfall game will be the next gold mine and is still funding the development.
According to Jeff Grubb, the next game might be Titanfall 3. It is a game set in the Titanfall universe. He believes that EA is slowly rebuilding the Titanfall series and this new game will be Titanfall 3. This comes after EA cancelled the previously-in-development spin-off game, Titanfall Legends.
As it stands, the current project is in very early development by a very small team. So much so that the project is still in its prototype phase which means no serious development has begun yet. However, reports claim the project is aiming to be a single-player and multiplayer experience similar to Titanfall 2. It just won’t be a sequel and will likely be a bit less ambitious than its predecessor.
By the sound of things, Respawn Entertainment might be looking to merge the world of Apex Legends with Titanfall. A possible experience where players control one of the Legends from the game while at the same time incorporating the Titanfall mechanics including controlling BT and upgrading the mech.
Essentially, this project would be a compilation of the Apex Legends series and Titanfall.
“This game, as it stands today, as far as I understand, is a ‘Titanfall game’, it’s in the Titanfall universe. But everyone I talk to keeps saying, well it’s not, don’t get in you’re mind that it’s Titanfall 3, like a game with online multiplayer and a single-player campaign. I’m like, well wait, what, then how is, what is this game? I still don’t know.”
