New Windows 10 Start Menu Accidentally Revealed and it Looks Terrible

The old saying of “don’t fix what ain’t broken” definitely applies here as Microsoft has accidentally revealed a new Windows 10 Start Menu and it looks absolutely hideous. This happened due to Microsoft accidentally releasing an internal version of Windows 10 to Insider testers.

This internal build (18947) reportedly meant for Xbox development was released to Insider testers and it was only for the 32-bit version, something not a lot of people use anymore. This internal build appears to have a new Windows 10 Start Menu design and an image of it was captured NTAuthority.

Check it out below but be warned, it is really ugly.

Microsoft explained how this happened, stating that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#33f9ff” class=”” size=”22″] We actively test and validate each of our preview builds internally before sharing them externally, however a configuration change allowed this build to release to multiple rings simultaneously, including external rings.

We have made the necessary remediation in our Flighting service and have implemented additional changes to help prevent from this happening in the future. We apologize for any troubles this may have caused for affected Insiders and appreciate your assistance in bringing this to our attention so we could make the necessary changes as quickly as possible. That doesn’t take away from the fact that we could see this ugly new Windows 10 Start Menu in a live build of the OS later on. According to Betanews, there is an easy way to roll back to a previous build of Windows 10 if you received the update by following the steps below.

  • Click Start
  • Open Settings
  • Select Update & Security
  • Select Recovery
  • Under ‘Go back to the previous versions of Windows 10’ select Get Started
