Nintendo has confirmed that it will host a new Nintendo Direct showcase in June that lays out the company’s games launching in the second half of 2024. Interestingly, Nintendo has also confirmed that it’s working on a Switch successor (or Switch 2 as dubbed by fans) – the first time Nintendo has officially acknowledged the new hardware. It will be revealed before March 2025 or within this current fiscal year.
Speaking on Twitter/X in a recent post, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the company plans on announcing the Switch 2 sometime this fiscal year, though he didn’t provide any exact date. However, it will be revealed before March 2025 when the fiscal year ends.
In the same post, Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo will host the next Nintendo Direct event in June which will detail all the games coming to Switch in the latter half of 2024. On that note, he also made it clear that the Switch successor would not be announced or make an appearance at the Direct. Instead, fans will simply have to look forward to another reveal event that will take place before the end of the current fiscal year.
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct…

As for potential games that could be announced during June’s Direct, we imagine the lineup won’t be too exciting. Nintendo is presumably saving its heavy-hitters for the Switch 2 reveal, so we’ll likely get a number of third-party titles to fill out Switch’s release schedule until the end of the year, maybe with a few lesser first-party titles, remakes/remasters or spin-offs thrown in.
Nintendo hasn’t announced a date for the June Direct event, so stay tuned for more information.
