Ghost of Tsushima on PC Won’t Require PSN Account Link For Single-Player

After the fiasco surrounding Helldivers 2 recently, Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed that the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima PC version will not require players to link their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account, though there’s a catch: this is only for the single-player campaign. As revealed by the studio, a PSN account will be required for the Legends online multiplayer mode.

In response to a player cancelling their pre-order due to the account linking requirements, Sucker Punch confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima on PC will not need to link up to a PSN account if you’re only playing the single-player campaign. In fact, it’s entirely optional. However, those looking to jump into the game’s online multiplayer mode, Legends, will be required to link accounts.

Last week, Sony PlayStation revealed that Helldivers 2 players on PC would be required to link their Steam accounts to an active PSN account by a certain date. This, naturally, angered a lot of players who quickly took to Steam to review-bomb the game into Mostly Negative. The game was then pulled from 177 countries that didn’t have PSN support, meaning they were locked out of playing Helldivers 2.

Sony quickly reversed this decision and removed the requirement for Helldivers 2, meaning the update is no longer happening. It’s easy to see why some players are hesitant about all PlayStation games coming to PC now, especially since not every country or region has PSN.

Thankfully, Ghost of Tsushima‘s single-player campaign is its bread and butter so players don’t need to worry about missing out on the best experience. Legends is a fantastic multiplayer mode and it’s a pity that many won’t get to enjoy it due to Sony’s stringent account linking requirements. Hopefully this won’t become too problematic for future PlayStation exclusives making their way to PC.
