Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Has Been Completely Overhauled – Report

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the ambitious Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake from Ubisoft. The game was initially revealed back in 2020, though it was heavily criticised for its poor presentation and visuals. Ubisoft took the remake back to the drawing board and quietly worked on it over the last few years. A new report has now claimed that the game has been completely overhauled and it’s apparently much deeper than just a graphical facelift.

As reported by Insider Gaming, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has seen quite a hefty overhaul in development. For instance, it has been completely redone with Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Prune’s previous work thrown out. The overhaul reportedly includes a more “realistic approach”, said one source.

Everything has pretty much been rebuilt from the ground up, which includes a complete overhaul of the graphics, new animations and mechanics for combat and parkour and much more. Additionally, starting from scratch meant that the game had to be rewritten along with new motion capture work done. While voice actor Yuri Lowenthal was attached to the project before, he’s reportedly no longer voicing the Prince in the overhauled game.

The decision to completely rebuild the Sands of Time Remake has been applauded by fans, as the game’s first reveal wasn’t exactly met with a warm reception. Back in November, Ubisoft said that development on the overhaul had passed an “important milestone”, suggesting that it might be nearing completion. A year prior to that, Ubisoft reassured fans that the project hadn’t been cancelled and was still progressing well.

Whatever shape Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake takes next can only be positive. It seems like Ubisoft really cares about the IP enough to not just shovel out a low-quality remake effort. The franchise’s revival already kicked off on a good note with this year’s acclaimed Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, so we hope they can keep that momentum going.
