A sequel to 2021’s MCU movie Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is definitely happening, says actor Simu Liu who portrayed the titular character. While it’s been speculated that Shang-Chi 2 would move forward at Marvel Studios at some point given the box office success of the first movie, it seems like we now have somewhat of a confirmation from the cast.
Speaking on The Tonight Show recently, host Jimmy Fallon asked Simu Liu if there would be a Shang-Chi 2. The actor first responded, “You want me to lose my job, is that it?” possibly referring to how the cast of the MCU, particularly Tom Holland, had accidentally leaked information in the past. “Well look, I will say this: It’s definitely happening,” said Liu, eventually giving into the question.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is often cited as one of the better MCU movies post-Endgame. It released in 2021 and managed to score decent box office numbers, accumulating over $400 million worldwide. This also takes into account the limitations of the COVID pandemic during that time when cinemas were screening less movies and had strict health and safety regulations in place.

Regardless, it resonated well with audiences and critics. The movie holds a 91% score on the review aggregate website RottenTomatoes from 344 reviews and a 98% score from viewers. Considering the positive fanfare it received, it was inevitable that Shang-Chi, who is positioned to be part of the new wave of Avengers for the MCU, would get a sequel.
In related news, Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct a live-action Naruto movie based on the popular manga and anime by Masashi Kishimoto. The movie will be produced by Lionsgate, the same company handling the upcoming Borderlands movie.
