Sony’s marketing team went off the rails when the PlayStation UK account tweeted out a strangely worded post regarding the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Instead of just promoting the game’s collector’s edition, which features a fairly large 19-inch statue of Venom, Sony gave gamers the side eye with sexual innuendo and the internet has turned it into a meme.
The tweet reads “Treat yourself to 19-inches of Venom and more with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition“. Obviously, the tweet refers to the statue which measures 19 inches from the base of Venom to Miles Morales and Peter Parker swinging around the villain. But the way the tweet came across will never be forgotten.

Users started posting memes as a reply to the tweet. “You mean figurine, right?” said one user who replied with the famous Star Wars Anakin Padme meme. One user on Reddit has crowned the game’s villain as “Daddy Venom”.

The tweet is still up almost two days after posting it. So clearly Sony knew what they were doing and the tongue-in-cheek approach to this post was intended and approved.
Of course, if you want your own 19-inches of Venom, you can pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Collector’s Edition ahead of the game’s launch on 20 October. Follow our full South African pre-order guide for the game here.
