Code spotted in the recent build of Spotify on Android has revealed the long-awaited lossless audio feature may finally arrive on the platform soon. Spotify originally announced lossless audio years back as the so-called “Spotify HiFi” perk which was planned to be part of the company’s “Supremium” subscription tier.
However, the feature hasn’t been seen or heard from since. New code suggests that Spotify is gearing up to roll out lossless audio on the platform under a new add-on called “Music Pro”. This add-on will include higher-quality audio samples alongside a DJ remix feature. This feature will let users fiddle around with music tracks in new ways and essentially, mix their own playlists together.
According to the code, the Spotify Music Pro feature isn’t a new subscription tier. Instead, it will be an add-on for the service which you can opt-in for. We don’t know what the price is yet for this add-on. Only that it will likely include lossless audio in the pack.
The code, which was spotted by Reddit user Hypixely, reveals text that reads “lossless has arrived” with another line of text saying “up to 24-bit/44.1kHz”. Other text includes lines such as “Control your lossless listening” and “Your favourite music in 16-bit and 24-bit high-fidelity sound”. There’s no doubt this text points to the launch of lossless somewhere down the line.
Spotify is also rumoured to be launching a headphone optimization feature in the Music Pro add-on too. Little is known about the feature yet but it is said to include music optimizations for certain brands of headphones and earphones. Apple’s AirPods range is included in the code.
Music Pro is also rumoured to include an advanced library filtering system where users can filter their music by their mood, genre, instruments etc. We don’t know when Spotify will announce this upgrade.
