Star Wars Outlaws, the upcoming sandbox sci-fi RPG from Ubisoft Massive, could be targeting a release date sometime this May. At the moment, May is still a relatively empty month in terms of big gaming releases so this could be Ubisoft’s opportunity to capitalise on that empty release slot, especially around Star Wars day on 4 May.
The report comes from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who claims that Ubisoft currently has an internal target of May for the release date of Star Wars Outlaws. Of course, plans could very easily change but we’ll likely hear more news in the coming days as Ubisoft is expected to do its next investors call on 8 February, this week Thursday.
Last month, a Disney Parks blog post accidentally revealed that Star Wars Outlaws could release in late 2024 which contradicts Henderson’s latest report. However, it’s worth noting that Disney Parks could’ve simply used that as a placeholder window. Alternatively, if development on the game has been progressing smoothly, it’s possible that Ubisoft decided to shift the game’s expected release up by several months.
The official description for Star Wars Outlaws reads:
“Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.”
In related news, while the fate of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is still up in the air, Disney has acknowledged that there’s still a high demand for the game’s release. This follows a report that claimed the remake was “not being worked on right now” after numerous development setbacks.
