Ubisoft Says Beyond Good and Evil 2 is One of Its Most ‘Ambitious’ Games Yet

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has returned to news headlines but it’s far from being finished. Publisher Ubisoft has now billed the anticipated sequel as one of its most ambitious games yet, bolstering its development by seeking a senior gameplay animator. This is the first update we’ve received from the game in what feels like an eternity.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was officially announced during Ubisoft’s E3 press conference in 2017, though updates has been scarce since then. Fans have received a couple of CG trailers and a preview of an early development build but beyond that, little is actually known about the long-awaited sequel.

Developer Ubisoft Barcelona posted a job listing recently seeking a senior gameplay animator to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 – a sign that development is still underway despite rumours of the game quietly being cancelled behind the scenes. Ubisoft called it an ambitious project, but we have yet to see anything that justifies this claim.

A Bloomberg report published in February this year claimed that Beyond Good and Evil 2 remained in pre-production after at least five years of development. The game was actually revealed in 2008 as a tech showcase, but would later resurface in 2017 with the aim of making it a prequel instead.

As of 2019, at least five Ubisoft studios (Barcelona, Bordeaux, Mainz, Montpelier and Sofia) are all working on the project.

It’s unclear when we’ll see Beyond Good and Evil 2 again or how far along in development it actually is. There’s potential here for an excellent space-faring action/adventure to take shape as previous trailers showed plenty of promise. Unfortunately, it might be stuck in an odd limbo for a while.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development, though no platforms have been revealed yet.
