Microsoft announced a brand new Xbox Series S model at the recent Xbox Games Showcase. The new Carbon Black model will re-colour the original Series S to black and features larger storage space, now containing a 1TB SSD as opposed to the original console’s 512GB limit. However, nothing has really changed in terms of performance. The console will launch on 1 September this year at a slightly higher price than the standard Xbox Series S.
If you want to get your hands on the Carbon Black Xbox Series S model, it’s going to cost $349 USD at launch, which is $50 more than the standard 512GB model. We have yet to receive local South African pricing on the console but we will provide an update as soon as we’re able to gather more information. Xbox boss Phil Spencer says the new model is an effort to offer players more storage options when purchasing consoles.

Microsoft talked a bit about the Xbox Series S Carbon Black 1TB model, stating:
“The bold Carbon Black color is the same sleek, modern matte finish as Xbox Series X and the Xbox Wireless Controller. This console features the same next-gen speed and performance of our 512GB Series S, now with double the storage so you can download even more of your favorite games to your console where they’ll be ready to play when you are.”
Pre-orders are open today, though it’s not available in every region yet. Microsoft announced that it will be adding more regions and retailers in the weeks to come.
In addition to the new Xbox Series S model, Microsoft also announced a Starfield Limited Edition Xbox wireless controller as well as a headset, which you can purchase from the Microsoft Store right now.
