76 Million People Watched Netflix’s The Witcher Within its First Month

Netflix’s The Witcher was a massive success and if the internet memes and viral “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” tune did not prove that, then maybe the number 76 million will? Netflix has revealed that The Witcher is on track to become the “biggest season one TV series ever”. Yes, even beating Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

Netflix claims that through its first four weeks of release, 76 million member households chose to watch the action-packed fantasy starring Henry Cavill. The streaming house revealed the news during its Q4 Earning Reports. According to Netflix, The Witcher helped drive up sales of both the books and the video games around the world and “spawned a viral music hit.”

We know The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saw a massive spike in player activity after the show’s debut hitting a new all-time high. Toss a Coin to Your Witcher was then modded into both The Witcher 3 video game and Beat Saber. There’s no doubt the show was a huge success.

Even with the big numbers, Netflix’s data recording is not as great as we all hoped for. According to the streaming platform, if a user watches even two minutes of The Witcher, they count this as a view. They claim that two minutes is “long enough to indicate the choice was intentional.”

We know the show will be getting a second season which has already begun its pre-production phase. The second season two will premiere sometime in 2021 and will follow a more linear plot according to the show’s creator. It was revealed that the first season was purely meant to set up the characters and their past as the show introduced them all slowly to the viewer. This will not be the case in the second season.
