Apex Legends Postpones Global Series Amid Hacking Controversy

The Apex Legends Global Series has been put on hold after the competitive integrity of the game was compromised. EA has postponed the North American finals over concerns that hackers had compromised the game after two professional players from major teams were targetted and hacked on live stream this past weekend.

The hack took place during a tournament and resulted in the hackers applying advantage-granting cheats to the game mid-match. The cause and root of these hacks have yet to be verified but EA says it is currently undergoing an investigation to nail down the cause. So far, a cheat monitoring account on X claims that the hackers found an RCE (remote code execution) exploit to run their code directly from the player’s PCs during the match.

Two representatives from Epic Online Services and Easy Anti-Cheat claim there is no RCE vulnerability within EAC being exploited. So it seems that claim has been tossed aside. Respawn and EA are likely still trying to figure out exactly what happened and how the hackers gained access to the tournament.

“We have investigated recent reports of a potential RCE issue in Apex Legends, which we have confirmed to be unrelated to Easy Anti-Cheat. We are confident THERE IS NO RCE vulnerability within EAC being exploited.”

At the moment, no one has any idea as to when the Apex Legends Global Series will continue. The tournament was about to enter the finals. The official Apex Legends account says it will provide information on the matter “soon”.

You can watch the clip below to see the exact moment the game was hacked. DarkZero’s Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose was targeted. He is then seen spamming the chat “I’m getting hacked” and raises his hands to show he is no longer controlling the game. He also mentioned being able to see other players through walls.
