Microsoft is set to host an Xbox Games Showcase on 9 June with a Direct afterwards for a mystery game that’s rumoured to be the next Call of Duty. While details are scarce on the event and its lineup, some new information has leaked from The Verge hinting at release dates for anticipated upcoming games as well as some long-awaited reveals.
According to The Verge journalist Tom Warren, who has a decent track record of insider information in the gaming industry, the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase will conclude with a Direct that focuses on this year’s Call of Duty title, rumoured to be Black Ops 6 (or according to previous reports, Black Ops Gulf War). Warren cites his sources as being familiar with Microsoft’s plans for the event, which led to more details being leaked.
Warren notes that this will be the “first Xbox showcase featuring games across Activision Blizzard, Bethesda and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios.” He begins by mentioning that the next Gears of War game, reportedly Gears 6, will be unveiled at the showcase, corroborating previous reports from Jeff Grubb which claimed the same thing.
We’re going to be talking about games of course

The showcase will apparently also include a number of release dates for anticipated upcoming games like Avowed, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. Warren next mentions that Bethesda will show off its Shattered Space expansion for Starfield, set for release in September. Activision is supposedly targeting October for its next Call of Duty game, Avowed and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will arrive in November and finally, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle might release in December.
“I understand Microsoft has a lot of games to show this year, more than the 2023 showcase,” said Warren. “We should expect to hear how the 2025 lineup is looking, with some launch dates for some anticipated Xbox games.”
Take all of this with a pinch of salt until we see it for ourselves at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
