Fans will get a closer look at the upcoming major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, titled Phantom Liberty, at Summer Game Fest this year. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, Summer Game Fest is set to kick off on 8 June with a live showcase often packed with exciting new reveals, world premieres, trailers and more. Developer CD Projekt Red has now become one of the first studios to confirm its presence at the event.
The Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will expand the story of the original game and feature Keanu Reeves returning as Johnny Silverhand. He’ll also be joined by another Hollywood A-lister, Idris Elba, whose role in the game is unknown at this point. Additionally, we have yet to release a proper release date for Phantom Liberty so hopefully we’ll get one at Summer Game Fest.

The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account confirmed that press and content creators will be able to get hands-on sessions with Phantom Liberty at Summer Game Fest: Play Days, the actual meet of the show after the livestream kick-off presentation. CD Projekt Red also announced that it’s planning some hands-on time with the community at a later date, though it’s unclear if this means there will be a playable demo before release or not.
In Phantom Liberty, players will get to explore a new area in Night City as they unravel more of the story. Elba will play a major role in the plot but his involvement is a bit of a mystery right now. However, Reeves will once again play washed up rockstar rebel Johnny Silverhand so that’s always a plus.
CD Projekt Red say the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 will be its biggest expansion to date, which is impressive considering just how massive The Witcher 3‘s expansions were.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, Phantom Liberty will only be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
