Days Gone Studio is Working on a AAA Live Service Game

Days Gone developer Bend Studio is seemingly working on a AAA live service game. This is according to new job listings at the company seeking candidates with experience in “live operations”. This will be the studio’s first game since 2019’s Days Gone, which launched to a mostly mixed reception but gained a cult following over the years.

As reported by Game Rant, Bend Studio recently posted a job listing looking for a a lead project manager in game development. The role’s description offers some valuable insight into the kind of game the company is making next. “Sony Bend Studio, world-class creator of Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Syphon Filter, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting our next high-profile AAA title,” reads the job description.

The listing goes on to mention that the role will be to “plan and track release schedules against the defined live roadmap” as well as lead the team through three key stages of production: “pre-production, production, live services.”

The candidate will also be required to have “a deep understanding of game development cycles, processes, and latest trends with an emphasis on live operations” and “hands-on game development experience in leadership roles shipping AAA live service games.” While this mystery project hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s all but confirmed that Bend Studio’s next game will likely heavily feature live service elements.

Back in 2022, Sony announced its big push into live service territory, with the initial plan to ship at least 10 live service games by 2026. However, plans seemingly changed last year when PlayStation announced that it would be “reversing” its live service games push, instead shifting its focus back to strong single-player games under the company’s biggest first-party studios. Some live service titles are still moving ahead and it seems like Bend Studio’s project could be one of them.
