From Software and Bandai Namco Entertainment debuted the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, which greatly expands upon the base game’s story. The gameplay introduces several new abilities, boss encounters, weapons and locations. Along with the gameplay trailer, From Software also revealed a release date for the anticipated expansion.
The gameplay trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree appears to focus around Miquella, the brother of Malenia and his lore surrounding The Lands Between. The Erdtree has taken on a new shape in the trailer, cloaked in drapes and withering away. In terms of where the DLC will take place, it seems like players will be able to access the new content through Miquella’s cocoon after defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood, though that’s speculation on our part.
As for when you can get your hands on Shadow of the Erdtree, From Software revealed that the DLC will officially be available on 21 June 2024 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
In the Land of Shadow, Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord.

The release date, thankfully, isn’t too far off and it’s in a month largely without any major game releases (at least not yet). Pre-orders are available right now, priced for $39.99 – we’ll update you on local listings very soon.
Shadow of the Erdtree was first announced in February 2023, about a year ago. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the DLC and formulating theories about when and where it will take place as well as what kind of boss fights we’ll be in for. As expected, it looks like From Software is ramping up the scale of the boss encounters, introducing some rather menacing foes including the game’s cover art boss named Messmer The Impaler – some believe this to be Miquella based on his design, though we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store.
