Evo 2024 Lineup Announced – Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 Debut

The Evo fighting game tournament is set to return this year in Las Vegas, bringing together some of the world’s best players across franchises like Tekken, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Both Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 will be making their grand debut this year as part of the 2024 lineup, among other familiar titles and one big surprise that should please long-time Street Fighter fans.

Evo 2024 is shaping up to be a much bigger event than last year with some new titles being thrown into the mix. Tekken 8, which launched last month, will be part of the lineup as well as last year’s Mortal Kombat 1. To everyone’s surprise, the tournament is adding Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike to the list, a classic 2D fighter and arguably one of the greatest fighting games of all time.

3rd Strike‘s reappearance makes sense as this year marks the 20th anniversary of Evo moment 37, when professional player Daigo parried 15 consecutive hits in the game with Ken against Justin Wong’s Chun Li. It’s often viewed as the most iconic moment in competitive fighting game history. You can watch the clip right here.

Evo 2024 Lineup Tekken 8 Mortal Kombat 1

Other than the usual suspects, it’s good to see Guilty Gear: Strive and Granblue Fantasy Versus still staying strong year after year as part of Evo’s roster. With the return of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and the additions of Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1, this year’s Evo is showing plenty of promise and excitement.

Evo 2024 will take place from 19-21 July at the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Centre.
