Joker Folie a Deux Trailer Musical Lady Gaga Joaquin Phoenix

First Joker: Folie à Deux Trailer Promises a Mad Musical

The first trailer for Joker 2, or as it’s officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, has arrived online after the first poster was released yesterday. It promises an insane musical adventure with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Plot details are still mostly being kept under wraps but there’s enough madness in the trailer to put together some story bits.

The trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux seemingly picks up after the events of 2019’s Joker. Arthur Fleck (played by Phoenix) is locked away in Arkham Asylum, where he meets Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn as a fellow inmate. The pair seem to share a bond driven by insanity, taking part in musical numbers that we aren’t so sure are rooted in reality. Besides the cover song of “What the World Needs Now is Love” by Jackie DeShannon, we don’t really hear any music from the movie, though that might be saved for the official trailer.

The trailer also shows scenes of the duo out of Arkham Asylum, so there might be more to the plot than just Joker and Harley Quinn slow-dancing in a mental institution. Arthur takes quite a liking to Harley Quinn, saying that he’s not alone anymore. It will be interesting to see where the story goes, especially since it seems to be creating an isolated universe where Batman could exist, though may never show up.

Joker: Folie à Deux will once again be directed by Todd Phillips, who directed the first Joker movie. Screenplay duties fall to Phillips as well as Scott Silver as a co-writer. Batman creator Bob Kane is also credited as a writer since he created the characters for DC.

The sequel stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan and Ken Leung. It’s set to arrive in cinemas on 4 October 2024.
