Former Hellblade Director Reveals Why He Left Ninja Theory

Former Hellblade and Ninja Theory co-founder Tameen Antoniades has opened up about his departure from the studio. Tameen posted an Instagram where he shared his goodbye message. Keep in mind that Tameen’s departure arrived quite suddenly. Rumours began to swirl last week when media learnt he left the studio. Up to that point, there was no talk about it.

However, he says that the plan was always to depart Ninja Theory after the launch of the first Hellblade. In his Instagram post, Tameen says he was “ready to step off after Hellblade”. He says he stayed on for an additional two years to make sure the studios’ foundations were in place.

Tameen says creating life-changing art with game-changing tech has always been a mission for the studio and he’s excited for players to see this come to life in Hellblade 2 soon.

“I’m forever proud of and grateful to the Ninjas, and i want the world to know Ninja Theory is safe and sound in the best hands possible. Huge shout to Microsoft for taking care of our baby and letting us grow to become who we are! As for me, whatever I do next, I’ll always be a Ninja.”

Hellblade 2 is expected to launch on 21 May for Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game was recently under fire for running at 30FPS on Xbox Series X but we explained why this likely happened. The Unreal Engine 5 game takes advantage of various UE tech including advanced facial capture, Lumen, Nanite and other in-engine advancements.

It was recently revealed that Hellblade 2 would only last around 8 hours of game time. Ninja Theory says the game length is just about right to tell the story they want to tell.
