Gabe Newell Says Valve Has Games in Development That They Plan On Announcing

Valve is not just a hungry, self-absorbed company that takes high profit shares away from developers after all. Well, that is according to Gabe Newell who says that they are definitely working on games and plan on announcing them. In an interview with 1 News, Newell insists that Valve is working on a couple of games at the moment. What these are, we have no idea.

Newell touched on the topic of Half-Life 3, or the lack thereof. He claims that the development and success of Half-Life: Alyx brought some life back into his love for game development.

“We definitely have games in development that we’re going to be announcing. It’s fun to ship games. Alyx was great. To be back doing singleplayer games, that created a lot of momentum inside the company to do more of that.”

While we don’t know what games are currently in development at Valve, the hint of single-player excitement could mean we may see sequels to Half-Life in the future. Just don’t bank on it yet.

Gabe Newell also touched on the recent Cyberpunk 2077 drama including the rocky launch and big-ridden experience. Newell claims that he had has a lot of fun playing the PC version but at the same time, he has a lot of sympathy for the developers at CD Projekt RED.

“All I know is that there are a lot of very happy gamers in the PC space, which are the ones that are most visible to us. There are aspects of the game that are just brilliant, and it shows a tremendous amount of work. It’s unfair to throw stones at any other developer, because just getting something as complex and ambitious as that out the door is pretty amazing. The PC version that I played, I had a lot of fun playing.”

We can only hope that Valve gives us something new to play in the coming months that is firstly not a card game, and secondly not a VR game. Don’t get me wrong, Half-Life: Alyx is a great game for the twenty-five people who own PC VR headsets.
