Mark Hamill Set to Voice The Joker in MultiVersus

Mark Hamill will provide the voice of The Joker for MultiVersus when it relaunches later this month. The decision to cast Hamill as the iconic maniacal DC villain makes perfect sense considering the actor’s history of portraying the character in various mediums – including 1992-1995’s Batman: The Animated Series as well as Rocksteady Studios’ Arkham trilogy of Batman games.

Kevin Conroy, the now-deceased actor known for voicing Batman in numerous projects over the years, many of which were alongside Hamill’s The Joker role, also provided the voice for the Dark Knight in MultiVersus.

After an open beta that began in July 2022 and officially ended the following year in June, MultiVersus shut down to make preparations for its later full release, now confirmed to be taking place on 28 May 2024. In addition to shifting to Unreal Engine 5 and adding a brand new PvE mode, game director Tony Huynh confirmed the inclusion of new stages, new character moves and better netcode.

For those unaware, MultiVersus is a free-to-play fighting game developed by Player First Games and heavily influenced by Super Smash Bros. that incorporates a number of characters from various Warner Bros. Discovery franchises – like Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time and Steven Universe, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry and even Game of Thrones.

Immensely popular during the early period of its open beta on Steam, the title slowly began losing large amounts of its active playerbase as time went on, seeing less than 1,000 daily players, as reflected on SteamDB, by February 2023. This is in sharp contrast to the over 143,000 players observed on launch day and could possibly be due to a lack of new content during the game’s second season.

When it arrives again later this month, MultiVersus will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC via either Steam or the Epic Games Store.
